Back from school and practice so I decided to hop back on. I saved right in the middle of the main room with the three adjacent rooms. The green door is still locked and I have no idea where to go from here.

[wormancer] 04/16/2013 7:30 PM:

Welcome back. Just read through your first few threads. I don’t really know what to say other than that this is insane and I would think it obviously has something to do with the room behind the white door or the room on the right with the sign. Does anyone else have any ideas of how to continue because I don’t really wanna be useless here though I have no ideas myself.

[sir_arthur_of_tables] 04/16/2013 7:45 PM:

I think you’re right, @wormancer. It has to be something to do with the copied Music Room that’s behind that White Door. Are you sure that there’s nothing else in that room @firemint?

[firemint] (Author) 04/16/2013 7:50 PM:

Like the main room Ive made a bunch of circles around the room behind the white door (which im just going to call the 2nd music room at this point because I dont want to have to type that all out lol). So I rotated the camera around because I wasnt seeming to find anything and I rotated it so that I was looking at the wall that has the door and I found a painting that isnt there in the normal verison of the music room. Heres a photo of it:

Edit 1: I misspelled wall

Edit 2: I also mispelled rotated

[wormancer] 04/16/2013 8:03 PM:

So here’s my theory so far:

Clearly they didn’t want anyone to be able to access this area because it’s unfinished. I think that all of the textures are textures that are just fill ins because they are completely different from the first part of the game. They’re dingy and dark and nothing like the normal colorful pastel colors and what not. I think that the long hallway was just used to distant the two areas.

Anyone have any other theories or am I just completely wrong?

[sir_arthur_of_tables] 04/16/2013 8:09 PM:

“Anyone have any other theories or am I just completely wrong?”

No, I completely agree with you.

Also, I’ve been trying to replicate whatever you did @firemint but I physically can not. I have no idea what you did.

[firemint] (Author) 04/16/2013 8:12 PM:

I think I figured it out. I needed to play the piano three times. I dont know if its time reliant though because I tried that the first time I got into this room as I did it like 5 times but idk

[wormancer] 04/16/2013 8:14 PM:

Continue down the hallway I guess.

[firemint] (Author) 04/16/2013 8:49 PM:

Sorry that Ive taken so long to reply. Ive kind of been wandering around.

This is the next area. It seems to be similar to the basement at least as far as I can tell. What do you guys think?

[sir_arthur_of_tables] 04/16/2013 8:56 PM:

Is that the crank from the Music Room in the second screenshot?

[firemint] (Author) 04/16/2013 9:01 PM:

Yes that is definitely the same crank. I dont know what it does because I cant even interact with it. Is there any way that I can do anything like enter a debug mode? or was that never even made for this game?

[sir_arthur_of_tables] 04/16/2013 9:06 PM:

There never was a “Debug Mode” that was added to Caretaker. Apparently that wasn’t really important to the players. We know that the development of this game was not very formal and that it was kind of scattered all over the place.

Also, in the third screenshot, is that a sign in the left corner? It looks like it’s hiding in the shadows.

[firemint] (Author) 04/16/2013 9:13 PM:

I went over to it and its a sign but it just says ABC. No idea.

[wormancer] 04/16/2013 9:20 PM:

Sounds like to me that’s the blank input for the sign asset?

[sir_arthur_of_tables] 04/16/2013 9:23 PM:

I don’t know because I wasn’t one of the people who developed this game, obviously, but that sounds like a reasonable answer.

@Jackpit what do you make of all of this?

[Jackpit] 04/16/2013 9:43:

The room almost reminds me of an empty warehouse or is that just me

[firemint] (Author) 04/16/2013 9:50 PM:

I cant find anything else in this room and I think this might be the dead end.

[wormancer] 04/16/2013 9:55 PM:

Damn, I really thought that we were on to something.

[sir_arthur_of_tables] 04/16/2013 10:13 PM:

“Damn, I really thought that we were on to something.”

Considering we just found an entirely abandoned and secret region of the game, two “levels” that seem to have been unfinished, and solved a puzzle in order to open a locked door, I don’t think this is really a disappointment. It’s more of a breakthrough considering we are the only people in this game’s community.

[deleted user] 04/17/2013 7:37 PM:

sorry that im so late to this whole discusion but in all honesty it looks like this was just a level that Magic or something never completed. i saw that Zeta talked about how she had interacted with RazorCrest and back in 2007 i had too so i think I can help give some context to everything that was going on back then:

Magic and RazorCrest (and i believe even Jr) were all a part of a friend group that new each other irl (at least thats the assumption i made the way that they talked about each other). if not all of them knew eachother in real life i know at least Magic and RazorCrest did and most likely Jr too.

Magic started development on this game in 2005 on his mac (as thats what unity was only available on at the time) but he ended up changing over to his pc when unity was released for windows. I remember hearing someting about how he couldnt figure out how to transfer the files from his mac to his pc so he just restarted the project completely.

the game was planned to be a simple puzzle game. Magic worked on the game on and off as he seemed to struggle to figure out how to balance his schoolwork and his game development. creating games was his passion, as RazorCrest had told me in a conversation way back before I lost contact with him on Yahoo! messenger or something like that that Magic would always make games in real life. Magic loved playing Gheos, some game that i literally have only heard RazorCrest talk about, along with a bunch of video games plus i remember RazorCrest also said that the two of them liked playing quake but that Magic wasnt the best at it at all lmao.

[deleted user] 04/17/2013 7:49 PM:

anyways, i think the two of them had a falling out before Magic disappeared. Something about the two of them having a group project together at one point (that actually might have literally nothing to do with their falling out and is just a random detail that ive have half remembered).

Caretaker was Magic’s passion even though he didnt have a lot of time to be able to work on it. he kind of got weird about the project towards the end though. RazorCrest explained to me that a lot of what he did was make the textures for the game and also Zeta was completely right in saying that Jr (whos real name was Jeffrey if I remember correctly according to Razor Crest) was just a playtester. Jr had no experience in coding at all much like me. a long while ago RazorCrest actually sent me one of the pre 0.1 versions of Caretaker but that was on my old pc that killed itself so i dont think i would even be able to salvage any of that. Its still in my closet but the things fried. maybe i can try and salvage the harddrive but i dont really know how to do that and i dont wanna ruin it.

[sir_arthur_of_tables] 04/17/2013 8:02 PM:

Nice to see you back online, Tracer. Thanks for all of the context.

[wormancer] 04/17/2013 8:03 PM:

@deleted user Thanks for replying, I thought this thread already died in a day, lol. Is there anyway that you can get back in contact with RazorCrest? I know that Zeta said that she couldnt

[deleted user] 04/17/2013 8:56 PM:

i could always try but im telling you that theres no guarantee that hes gonna message me. i still have him on yahoo but who knows if he even has the same account. he was also slow to reply in general as he wasnt online as much as Magic was so that makes me think he just wont reply at all at this point

the last message i got from him was in 2010. we were playing on a multiplayer minecraft world together with a few of the other developers at the time lol.

[wormancer] 04/17/2013 9:01 PM:

I hate to pester but do you have the contacts of some of the other devs?

[deleted user] 04/17/2013 9:45 PM:

the only other devs i can contact is splice33 as im pretty sure Carter2005 went offline completely sometime back in 2009 and _popit_ deleted his yahoo account or something but now that i think about it i used to have both Magic and RazorCrest on AOL but we didnt talk much on there.

[wormancer] 04/17/2013 9:52 PM:

When was the last time you contacted Magic on AOL?

[deleted user] 04/17/2013 11:46 PM:

sorry i was making dinner lol. the last time that i messaged Magic was like in late 2009. i saw mention from Zeta that RazorCrest joined the dev team pretty late and while thats technically true he still was friends with Magic and they did a lot of stuff online together so though he wasnt a part of the developer team until like 2008 or something he was still friends with all of them.

edit i just checked the message with Magic and it was something to do with the Minecraft world that we were running lol. that server started in september of 2009 and went on for a bit till we all kind of went about our lives. i also do want to mention that i never helped with the game lmao i only became friends with them at the tail end of everything so dont ask me anything about the actual game itself

[wormancer] 04/18/2013 12:03 AM:

Damn, thanks for all your help Tracer.

[deleted user] 04/18/2013 12:31 AM:

ofc happy to help.
